Create a word problem involving surface area and volume of 3-d figures. First person creates the problem. Next person solves it. Then it keeps going...
What is the surface area of a cylinder if its radius is 13 and its height is 22? Answer it both ways; using pie and leaving it in terms of pie. And use 3.14 for pie.
Remember: The formula for this is 2 x (3.14 instead of pie) x r x h + 2 x (3.14 instead of pie) x r^2.
What is the surface area of a rectangular prism with a height of 37cm, a width of 87cm, and a length of 98cm. Challenge: how many full cubes with a side of 2 centimeters each will fit into this prism? REMEMBER: how many FULL cubes.
the formula for surface area of a rectangular prism is 2lh+2wl+2wh, so first i multiplied 2x37x98=7,252cm then i multiplied 2x87x98=17,052cm then i multipled 37x87x2= 6,438cm, so when you add everthying up the answer to nikhil's question is 30,742cm^2
since a rectangular prism had 12 sides, you multiply 2 and it is 24cm each, then divide 24 by 30,742
im not sure i know the amswer to the challenge problem, but is it about 1,280 cubes
Mila u did it wrong, you had to find the volume of the rec. prism, which was 315,462 cm^3 then you find the area of each cube which is 2x2, 4. Then 315,462 divided by 4 which would be 78865.5. But that wont be the answer because he asked how many FULL cubes which would be 78,865 cubes. Mrs.Norwich does this count as a answer also or do I have to make a new question..?
Bill Lee was eating chicken soup from a cylinder-shaped can. The can had a diameter of 8 and a height of 16. What is the surface area of the cylinder? SA of a C= 2 x pi x r x h + 2 x pi x r^2
Samantha was putting scrunchies in a cylinder-shaped container. The diameter of the container is 5 inches and the height is 10 inches. What is the volume of the container?
Let me just clarify on Nikhil's question... A rectangular prism has 6 faces surface area is calculated as 2lw + 2lh + 2wh. However, he also asked about fitting the cubes into the prism. That means that you need to figure out volume = lwh. The volume of the cube is 2x2x2. Finally you divide the volume of the prism by the volume of the cube. Good question.
@Royal, I think you got the incorrect answer because you said: Radius= Diameter/2 And then you did: 2.5/2 However, the diameter was 5, not 2.5. 2.5 is the radius. So you do, Pi X 2.5^2 X 10 Which equals 196.34. So Alina was correct. :)
Cindy bought some crackers that were inside a cylinder can. The height of the cylinder can is 12 centimeters and the diameter of the cylinder can is 8 centimeters. What is the volume of the cylinder can? Use pi as 3.14.
melissa comes home from school and sees a box of cookies. the box is a rectangular prism that has a height of 8, length of 4, and a width of 10. what is the volume and surface area of the rectangular prism?

ReplyDeleteRemember: The formula for this is 2 x (3.14 instead of pie) x r x h + 2 x (3.14 instead of pie) x r^2.
What is the surface area of ac cylinder if the diameter is 14 and the height if 31?
ReplyDeleteRemember that I wrote the diameter is, calculate the RADIUS!
The formula is: SA 2*pi*(Radius)*31 + 2*pi*(Radius) squared!
vita: Not in terms of pie is 2,857.4
ReplyDeleteAnd in terms of pie is 910.
Yes Elvira, your answer is completely right! Fantastic Job!! :D
ReplyDelete@Ona Prokes is the answer 1,671.4 I rounded to the tenths place.

ReplyDeleteyou better answer my question. Ill be waiting until someone can step up to the easy challenge.
ReplyDeleteNikhil is still waiting....
ReplyDeletethe formula for surface area of a rectangular prism is 2lh+2wl+2wh, so
ReplyDeletefirst i multiplied 2x37x98=7,252cm

if not please say the answer and explin it

ReplyDeletedid i do the surface area correct, though
ReplyDeleteand thanks nickie for the help
yah you got the surface area correct
ReplyDeleteBill Lee was eating chicken soup from a cylinder-shaped can. The can had a diameter of 8 and a height of 16. What is the surface area of the cylinder?
ReplyDeleteSA of a C= 2 x pi x r x h + 2 x pi x r^2
good luck...pay attention VERY carefully
The surface area of the cylinder is 502.6548246 but rounded to the tenth would be 502.7^2 (didnt say unit though)
ReplyDeleteSamantha was putting scrunchies in a cylinder-shaped container. The diameter of the container is 5 inches and the height is 10 inches. What is the volume of the container?
ReplyDeleteV of a Cylinder: pi r^2 x h

ReplyDeleteNickie, thats right..and sry about the until thing..i forgot
ReplyDeleteI would like to answer Mahtabs (queensuravi99) question:
ReplyDeleteMy answer is 196.3^3inches
I rounded to the nearest tenths.
Yes, Alina that is correct. And by the way, my name is Suravi, not Mahtab.(queenSURAVI99)
ReplyDeletei am soooo sorry! :(
ReplyDeleteIn reference to Suravi's question...
ReplyDeletepi=3.14
radius=diameter/2
=2.5/2
=1.25 inches
Area=pi*radius squared*height
=pi*1.25 squared*10
=pi*1.5625*10
= approximately 49.0625
@Royal,
ReplyDeleteI think you got the incorrect answer because you said:
Radius= Diameter/2
And then you did:
2.5/2
However, the diameter was 5, not 2.5.
2.5 is the radius.
So you do,
Pi X 2.5^2 X 10
Which equals 196.34. So Alina was correct. :)
Cindy bought some crackers that were inside a cylinder can. The height of the cylinder can is 12 centimeters and the diameter of the cylinder can is 8 centimeters. What is the volume of the cylinder can? Use pi as 3.14.
ReplyDeleteVolume of a cylinder:
pi*radius squared*height
Alice 723
I would like to answer Alice's question.
ReplyDeleteMy answer was 602.88 centimeters.
Also, can we get a new question, please?
melissa comes home from school and sees a box of cookies. the box is a rectangular prism that has a height of 8, length of 4, and a width of 10. what is the volume and surface area of the rectangular prism?
ReplyDeleteMilana Aminova Class 724
Suravi, that is correct. :)
ReplyDeletecan someone plz answer my question its been nearly a month
ReplyDeleteMilana, to answer your question, the volume was 320 and the surface area was 304.
ReplyDelete-Alice Class 723
When are we going to get a new question?
ReplyDeleteAlice, you are correct
ReplyDeleteand thankyou for answering my question
